Let's review a little information about the NCOC

Founded in 2001, the National Carbon Offset Coalition's (NCOC) sole focus is and always will be to help farmers, ranchers, private forest owners, and tribal and state governments tap into a new revenue stream - the sale of carbon credits derived from their land.

These carbon credits, also called offsets, are being traded on the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). The exchange launched trading in December 2003 in a pilot program to allow companies to purchase carbon credits to offset greenhouse gas emissions.

This market is creating a new revenue opportunity for producers with any of the following:

no-tilled fields and newly established grasslands

rangeland, forest that's been committed to an improvement program

forested land that has managed reforestation or new plantings

  on-farm methane digesters

In addition to producing revenue for land managers, this effort also offers ancillary efforts to our environment such as soil quality improvements through increased soil organic matter, water quality improvements through establishment or maintenance of ground cover, water quantity increase, energy conservation, air quality improvements, and wildlife habitat improvements through the establishment or maintenance of plant coverage.

Because NCOC is committed to the carbon market effort, NCOC has joined forces with researchers at Montana State University (MSU) and Washington State University to compare different methods of estimating C sequestration on selected projects with in the NCOC portfolio. The outcome of the research will assist in developing the monitoring, verification and measurement of carbon. We are proud to serve agriculture and forestry interests in this emerging market and look forward to working with you .
